Ok. I finished Barbara Bretton's Laced with Magic. All I have to say is, "Mrs. Bretton, are you stupid? Are you THAT type of writer, who has to make the characters run through rings of fire, then SCREW THEM OVER IN THE END?!!!!!" Surely, I have seen better endings. I expressed my displeasure last night at my boyfriend, but also to the nurse who recommended this book. Ugrghhgh!
But Gilly Hopkin's, ah, that was such a fruitful ending. Little Miss Motormouth realizes her errors, but also a valuable lesson about her real mother. Awwwwwww.

I'm now onto Maureen Johnson's not-so-newest book Girl At Sea which somehow I've never seen. I need to see what else she's written to get my awesome young adult writer high.

But of course, I would be reading, if it wasn't for Farmville. Oh, that Facebook application where you can farm, plant, tend to animals! Its exciting! Help others!
Apparently I have read all her books. Oh. Well. Um. Moving on... Who else should I conquer? Maybe I'll do a "Read the Book, See the movie". My roommate and I just watched "Secret Life of Bees", huzzah, I shall go hunt down the book!

Of course, Farmville is sucking out my soul.....

The Great Gilly Hopkins
I could have sworn I read this as a kid, which, I probably did (inbetween some creepy stories and whatever I was forced to read in class). I also am reading it because it's apart of the Banned Books frequently challenged list. Ohhh, scary literature. I found out WHY it's banned though. Twenty two pages in, Gilly decides to let her inner monologue fly:

Gilly shook her head. Inside she seethed. It was bad enough having to come to this broken-down old school but to be behind- to seem dumber than the rest of the kids- to have to appear a fool in front of ... Almost half the class was black. And she would look dumb to them. A bunch of-
"Why don't you bring your chair up to my desk, and we'll work on it?" Gilly snatched up her chair and beat Miss Harris to the front of the room. She'd show them!
pg. 22

Gilly's got an agenda, and well, most of the USA doesn't care to know how mouthy our foster system child our main character is. Oops. I read Bridge to Terabithia prior to this, so I have a good idea of Mrs. Paterson's writing style and mind set.

I'm open to suggestions, and would like to state that this blog will be updated Mondays, Saturdays and whenever else I'm struck to post about my books.
I finally finished Dark Whispers from my previous post. I knew at about page 400, that this wasn't going to end. In fact, there's another book waiting, The Last Hunt who's final draft was completed October 10th, 2009. How do I know this? Well, Wikipedia told me!
in Photobucket Dark Whispers, I'm waiting for some serious carnage, however, it's not coming. I had some gay-fantasties though.. That will do until we find out one character's true back story.
But until it comes out in which Amazon says April 2010, I'm going to sit and read Photobucket Laced with Magic, by Barbara Bretton, the sequel to Photobucket which the nurse at school suggested.

the funny thing about that is that she's been suggesting all these magical books, but they're all romance! Which, I don't really read. It's nice to true off my head though, and read some chick lit.
I'll be exploring other genres too (but no horror. I don't too well... I'm a scary-pants! What can I say?) until then, taaa. I need to take care of some reading and lunch.

In my efforts to create a blog much like my friend Rachel, I have also been inspired to revamp this ye old blog from Dec. 2000-Jan. 2003 for a class. A class!? Yes, I'm a master's of library science student, in one of those required courses they force you to take at the beginning of your graduate career. Soooooo after much delibrating, this is my second menu exercise for ILS 501. I'm struggling with the frikkin' HTML, the fact that my archives no longer are linked (Goodbye, Teenage Angst!), and that my colors don't match. HUGE. DEALS. PEOPLE.
Yes. My rudimentary HTML skills are being put to the test to remember how to format and nest some columns. I'm having a fun time, really.

In the next few days, this place is going to shift, and hopefully look like a real book blog. I'm currently reading Dark Whispers- Bruce Coville. This long time awaited children's book has been waiting, really, for 14 years to be published. Coville wrote some favorites such as "My Teacher is an Alien!" series, as well as the Unicorn Chronicles. I found it by mistake, when helping the above friend (pssssst, Rachel!) who wanted to read Chris Wooding's Broken Sky, however, we decided to read The Unicorn Chronicles to placate this matter.

So, take this as you well, I'm going to be cleaning this page up, and writing about Dark Whispers soon enough. I am about 100 pages in, with 462 in total. Yahhhhh readin'!
